David Byron

David Byron is a software developer working for the military-industrial complex. At Popehat, he writes about art, language, theater (mostly magic), technology, lyrics, and aleatory ephemera. Serious or satirical poetry spontaneously overflows from him while he's recollecting in tranquility. @dcbyron

I think many of the attempts to "classicalize" popular music fall flat (e.g., the London Philharmonic's symphonic Led Zeppelin). They turn into a weird hybrid elevator-music sound that lacks the passion and energy of either rock or classical.

But I'm a sucker for the 2cellos version of Alien Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal:

Mischa Maisky also does an incredible job covering classical songs as duets for cello and piano.
